Social entrepreneur and founder of the Technical Basketball Academy (TBA), Titus Mwahafa has created an environment where young learners are being groomed to become Namibia’s basketball favorites and at the same time, excel in their academic lives.
The basketball academy started early in 2015 is an initiative to empower the Namibian child via integrated academics tutorials and entrepreneurship. This was in addition to basketball for both boys and girls.
The academy started with about 40 children who enrolled from Windhoek’s Khomas High School. Today, the program has branched out to Windhoek schools such as the likes of Jan Mohr Secondary School, Windhoek High School, Delta Secondary School, and recently taking on children from the Van Rhyn primary school.
The academy pays special attention to entrepreneurship which in Titus’ opinion is meant to fill the gaps within the labor market. “We all know that our labor market cannot absorb all graduates, so we teach children to venture into business from a very young age.”
He adds that the program aims to awaken idea identification and teach children how to run a fully-fledged business. It also incorporates mentoring and celebrating the achievements of local business ideas.
“The uniqueness of our academy lies in our seven key offerings. We are a success because of the participation of the learners who are all taken in at no cost - regardless of the school the learner comes from,” said the social entrepreneur.
“As a social entrepreneur, empowering the Namibian child is the best way to give back to my community.”
Titus concluded by saying that it is not about him, and that every child is a brand ambassador of his vision in life.

Founded in 2015, Technical Basketball Academy (TBA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing education programs to young people on the fundamentals of business, education, economics, entrepreneurship as well as Basketball. Technical Basketball Academy is fundamentally a volunteer organization; dedicated Board Members and TBA Business Volunteers are the backbone of the organization. This connects a real world perspective to education, bringing to life the importance of what learners are learning in school.
At the heart of TBA are our curricula. Our business, economics, basketball, leadership, financial education and workplace readiness programs are designed to be flexibly integrated as relevant extensions of standard school curricula, reaching learners in every year throughout their education experiences. In partnership with businesses and educators, TBA brings the real world to learners, opening their minds to their full potential.
